Review: Cooper’s Charm by Lori Foster

I think I’ve found my new favorite Lori Foster novel! I really enjoyed reading about Phoenix and her sister Ridley as well as the quirky cast of characters that popped up at Cooper’s Charm lake/camp. It was also set in Ohio which always means bonus points from this Ohio native!

Let me just say, I’ve been reading romance novels for a long time and when I see a nature cover with any kind of animal, I automatically assume it is women’s fiction. The cover combined with the synopsis which focuses on Phoenix and Ridley as opposed to Phoenix and Cooper (the main couple) cemented my preconceived notions.

I also assumed the book with be, if not clean, then at least contain some strategically written fade out scenes or colorful allusions to sex. Of course, if you’ve read Ms. Foster’s novels before, then you know she doesn’t shy away from sex scenes, but I thought she was taking a different route with this book. Boy, was I wrong. The sex scenes were steamy, which I enjoyed, but might come as a surprise for traditional women’s fiction readers.

This was a very cute and fulfilling romance novel. Phoenix and Ridley both grow as characters and so do their respective love interests. There is a third couple alluded to in the novel and I wonder if they will get their own story. I wish there had been separate books for both Phoenix and Ridley. I think because Ridley had the secondary relationship, her story often felt rushed or less important than Phoenix’s story (besides the sex scenes).

Overall, I enjoyed this book immensely. It is the perfect summer read. Very sexy, lots of heart, and a little bit of mystery to keep you guessing. I would recommend this to fans of Robyn Carr who wish the Virgin River Series had a lot more sex.
