I am going to be honest, I didn’t go into this book with very much hope. I haven’t read the first book in this series, but I did read the second book, OFF THE GRID, and unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. But I was extremely invested in a secondary couple whose story began in OFF THE GRID, so I decided to give OUT OF TIME a chance.
Thank goodness I did! This book was AMAZING. I was wholly invested in the plot from page one. I actually resented the necessity of sleep and work which kept me from finishing this book in one sitting. The mystery kept me intrigued, there was a perfect amount of action, and the characters were both flawed and relatable. The plot revolves around the continued series arc: who betrayed The Lost Platoon? Natalie, our heroine, has been accused of treason for betraying the United States and our hero Scott, one of the members of the lost SEAL team, is heartbroken by her deception and believes her to be dead.
There are so many twists and turns to this story. I loved every page. Natalie was a fantastic heroine. She had a been dealt a lousy hand but kept fighting for her life, and the lives of her loved ones at every turn. Scott was a by-the-book military alpha hero, but wasn’t above listening and learning from his mistakes, which made me adore him. Together, their chemistry was explosive but volatile and kept me on the edge of my seat.
As a bonus, not only did we get to see Kate and Colt (the secondary couple from OFF THE GRID) but we got to witness MAJOR groveling from Colt (which, he needed to do). Their storyline turned out to be a delightful addition to this book.
This book had a relatively complex plot, was the third book in a series, and had lots of characters, and I didn’t get lost once. I think that shows real skill from an author who has finally hit her groove with this series. I can’t wait to see which SEAL gets their story next and where this will all go from here.
