I am going to start off by saying, I liked this book. I read it in one sitting on a perfect Sunday afternoon. It’s a quick and fun read. Was it my favorite Tessa Bailey book of all time? Not by a long shot. I’m in the minority by saying this brother’s best friend romance with a Tessa Bailey flair was fun, but not spectacular.
While the book as a whole wasn’t one of my favorites, Georgie is one of my new favorite Tessa Bailey heroines. She’s a freaking clown, which I love, and always tries to look at the positive side of life. As the youngest child in her family, she has always worked for attention and doesn’t expect to be noticed or appreciated for her accomplishments or hard work. Her character is strong, determined and everything I aspire to be. I don’t blame Travis for falling for her, I was half in love by the end of the book!
Travis is a former professional baseball player who is in a funk now that his career ended because of an injury. Listen, I didn’t really like Travis, which almost never happens to me in a Bailey book! I found his character to be extremely self-centered even with the big ending, (no spoilers) that was more about him than her. Georgie literally wasn’t even there… He also writes Georgie off almost as much as her family and it frustrated me to no end.
Was this book fun and sexy with lots of heart? Yes. All Bailey books have those elements (thank goodness). But almost all of that heart came from Georgie and her girl gang. Travis just gave me whiny man-child. The sexy-times were on point per always, but it was difficult to enjoy them with a hero I was just “meh” about.
Overall, this was a solid start to a fun new series. Tessa always delivers. I am DYING for Rosie and Dominic’s story. Bring on all the angst and sexual tension!!
