Review: One Christmas Eve by Shannon Stacey

Four Stars

A couple who flirts via book exchanges and tabbed scenes?? Give me more! Are you looking for a sexy and fun opposites attract romance novella? Of course you are! Add in a small town, a heroine who owns a book shop, and a fun holiday season backdrop, you have this winner of a story from Shannon Stacey.

ONE CHRISTMAS EVE is a classic opposites attract romance. Our hero is slightly stodgy, but delightfully self-aware (aka, he knows he’s kind of boring). But he makes up for it with a cute sense of humor and a kind heart. Our heroine is recently divorced and not going to let anyone judge her ever again. The two characters clash over a sexy storefront window, and discover a ridiculous amount of sexual chemistry.

I’m pretty sure I grinned like a fool the entire time I was reading this novella. There’s banter, the perfect amount of sexy times, and a very well developed romance for a shorter page count. I do wish the conflict had been just a tad less predictable. The characters had complex emotions and I think there was room for a more interesting conflict resolution. Also, the heroine’s “secret” that ended her marriage made me roll my eyes SO hard. Though, the hero was cute when he found out.

Overall, I was delighted by this novella. It’s like a Hallmark movie with a little more spice, just the way I like it! I am kicking myself for not starting with book one, but luckily book two stands alone well. I will be going back for the first book in the series!

Great review, Teresa! *happy sigh* Tis the season of holiday romances! I love me some good Christmas romances, so I’m going to check this one out sooner, because you said so. I trust your tastes. And yay to this being similar to a Hallmark movie. Happy reading!
