One of the many reasons I love Kristen Ashley is that she always gives her fans exactly what they want. Are you missing her early books/series? Missing the Denver setting and Smithie’s club? Missing commandos, crazy OTT drama, and stripper heroines? Then you’re going to adore this book. Reading it felt like a hug from an old friend.
Evie and Mag are a classic KA couple with a twist. Evie’s family has big problems, and Mag steps in almost immediately to help. Lots of instalove in a fun way. From the preview we got of this book in QUIET MAN, I thought the story would follow Mag’s demons, but for the most part, Evie was a bit of a mess, and Mag helped her put the pieces of her life back together.
My favorite parts about this book were the female friendships, Evie’s character development, Mag as a new-age KA hero, and the hints of the books to come! Part of Evie’s character transformation was her gaining confidence and a girl gang, which was just a delight to read about! Women supporting women all the way! Mag was what I would call an enlightened KA alpha hero. While he was commanding and take charge, he understood that Evie was a grown woman and could make her own choices, even if he disagreed with them.
I did feel like I had read this book before. DREAM MAKER seemed like a mix of a few previous KA books. I think part of that was having SO many characters from previous series, and part of it was KA laying the groundwork for future books. I hate to say it, I don’t think we needed as many cameos as we got. You may be a little lost with all the names and descriptions if you haven’t read any of Kristen Ashley’s previous works.
Overall, this book is everything I when I hear “Rock Chick and Dream Man spin-off.” It was fun, it was over the top action-adventure, and I am ready to dive into the rest of the series, like, yesterday. More hot guy commandos, please!
