Three Stars
A quick novella filler in Kat Martin’s high octane Maximum Security series, BEFORE NIGHTFALL is a nice bite of a book with some fun insta-love and pulse-pounding action scenes. I really liked our hero, Colt. His eye patch was sexy and I loved that he treated the heroine, Lissa, with the professional respect she deserves.
When there is a full action plot like in this novella, the romance does tend to suffer a bit. I really didn’t believe Lissa and Colt were willing to uproot their whole lives after a few days of knowing each other, but it’s a fun fantasy! And what’s that famous saying, “adrenaline makes the heart grow fonder”? Overall, this was a nice novella, nothing too special, but I have high hopes for the rest of the series.
