Review: Christmas on Mistletoe Lane by Annie Rains

3.5 Stars

If you’ve been thinking, I’d like to watch a Hallmark Christmas movie, but I also want to read a book, you should pick up Christmas on Mistletoe Lane by Annie Rains. This story follows Kaitlyn and Mitch, two strangers, both at a crossroads in their lives, who suddenly find themselves co-owners of an old inn in North Carolina.

This story had every cute, if slightly hokey, Christmas romance theme I love. The rundown inn Mitch and Kaitlyn need to restore together, small town charm with a cast of quirky, yet lovable, characters, and a few conflicts that only make the eventual happily ever after that much sweeter. One of my favorite parts of this story was actually Mitch and Kaitlyn’s relationship (one Mitch pulled his head out of the sand). I thought their easy friendship and chemistry was believable and sweet.

There were a few parts that made me roll my eyes, I mean, there was a “villain” for maybe 2.5 seconds and every conflict is resolved within a few pages. Some parts were a little too sweet for me, especially at the end. I also wanted to kick Mitch in the butt occasionally and I think Kaitlyn should have made him grovel a little bit more for being a jerkface. But this is a Hallmark movie in book form so I’ll forgive it.

Overall, this was a sweet, easy read that made me want to go rent a romantic room in a cute little inn. If you let yourself let go of reality for a few hours, and just get swept away by holiday cuteness, you’ll love this story.
