Review: Season of Wonder by RaeAnne Thayne

Four Stars

All I want for Christmas is my very own Ruben Morales! What a dreamboat. This book filled me with all the warm and fuzzy holiday feels we all need every once in a while. Tough, single mom Dani and the adorable police officer next door falling in love made my heart happy.

My favorite part about this book was the accurate way Ms. Thayne portrays complex family dynamics. Especially parental guilt and shame. While that doesn’t sound very cheery and holiday-ish, the deep dynamics turned what could have been a light and fluffy read into a beautiful, interesting, and romantic story that pulled me in from page one.

I loved the way Ms. Thayne wove a beautiful cast of supporting characters that in no way took away from the main couple or Dani’s daughters. I was as interested in the girl’s storyline as I was Dani and Ruben’s, which doesn’t happen to me very often in romance novels.

By the end I was a little annoyed by the repetition of the conflict. I understood why Dani had walls and barriers, but I was getting impatient for a resolution to the arguments after a while. Or I at least wanted a change in reasoning.

Overall, I absolutely see why Ms. Thayne is considered one of the best in the business. This was a quick and lovely holiday read with enough depth and heart to keep a reader hooked and happy. I can’t wait to pick up my next book from this talented author!
