Review: Mine to Keep by Rhenna Morgan

Four Stars

I had almost given up on finding a new mafia romance series I really love (most of the ones I enjoy were written in the early 2010s), and then Rhenna Morgan gave us the NOLA Knights series! Sexy Russian ex-pats who protect New Orleans, have their own moral code, and fall head-over-heels for their heroines? Yes, please!

MINE TO KEEP was a fun addition to this fast-paced series! It helps that the book has one of my favorite tropes, big bad hero helps the tough, street smart heroine out of an untenable situation because he has ~feelings~ for the first time. Our heroine comes from a family of cheats and liars but has done her best to stay on the right side of the law when her family’s misdeeds finally catch up to them; the heroine turns to her friend with mafia connections and she sends the hero to help.

My favorite part of these books are the grand and thoughtful gestures the heroes make for their heroines and Roman, our hero, might be the most romantic yet. Everything he did for the heroine made me a little swoony. He also was protective without being an alpha jerk, which is a more difficult balance to strike than one would think.

The suspense plot was well done, if a little predictable. But my biggest problem was that I wanted Roman to get into more depth with his childhood and demons. I felt like they were skimmed over and the heroine didn’t really know what she was getting herself into.

Overall, I am a huge fan of this series. Rhenna Morgan has a fun and sexy way of crafting a series that makes you want more and more and more! Here’s hoping for many more Knights in the future!
